On July 20th Geoff and I surprised the girls and took them to a train yard in Union, IL where Thomas the Train was visiting. The weather surprised us with a major heat wave! Oh, it was hot! Literally 100 degrees! How I wish we could know the weather weeks in advance when the tickets have to be purchased!
Despite the heat, the sweat, the stickiness, and the blistering sun: we had some fun! Everyone truly was a trooper.
Hylie was the only girl brave enough to get a photo with Sir Topham Hat. Eliana and Lillian were both terrified of him!

In case you were wondering, no, Thomas does not have air conditioned cars!
What could be better than bouncing in a hot tent on a hot day? Lillian found out that bouncing where the sun was beating down was NOT a good idea.

We stopped at a McDonald's to enjoy some air conditioning while we ate some very cold ice cream.
